Tips for Image Designing and Typesetting for Carton Box

The corrugated carton boxes appear in almost every corner of our life and in all industry. The designing and typesetting is so important that it could determine the printing quality of the corrugated carton boxes. And there are many dos and don'ts that should be carefully studied.

Firstly, don't do full sheet printing easily. The full sheet printing should be avoided in terms of water based flexographic printing, because its compressive strength would be decreased when the squeegee is in close contact with the corrugated board which damages the compressive strength of the corrugated board. Besides, the large scale inks penetrate paper boards which is also no good for its compressive strength. The physical performance index would get down by 30% after full sheet printing. Therefore, it would be better if the images of the corrugated box would be designed as simple as possible. And the images should not be printed all over, not to mention full sheet printing. If full sheet printing is required, color options should be limited. And the printing pressure should be strictly controlled to avoid heavy pressure. The pre-printing crafts would be a perfect solution for full sheet printing on the corrugated cartons.

Secondly, don't frequently overprint. Many times of overprint may decrease the compressive strength of the corrugated box too. Therefore, the overprint times should be strictly controlled. Especially for small images, overprint may not be satisfactorily achieved. Simple and creative images are welcome in carton designing and printing in accordance with the green concept.

Thirdly, don't print too small font. The corrugated boxes are mainly for commodity packaging and logistically targeted. With smaller font, the advertisement purpose of the corrugated boxes could not be easily accomplished. For example, letters below 50 px would not be recognized 5 meters away.

Fourthly, do select higher saturated ink. Since the corrugated board itself is dark, the printing color should be higher saturated so that the printing effect could be achieved.
