5 Factors that influence the packaging effect

The packaging of products is considered to be the last but not least procedure before they enter into the market. It somehow affects and can determine the sales performance. The packaging machinery, operators, and packaging materials are 3 major factors that define the final packaging effect. Specifically, the box design, the page make-up, temperature and humidity, surface treatment and die-cut are important to make a refined paper packaging product.

The box design decides if the box could be processed on the automatic packaging machine. If any part of the box is designed incorrect, the box may fail to be processed on the machine or more materials could be consumed than a professional design. The page make-up is also very important to make a smooth and flat packaging product by putting the box opening parallel to the fiber direct of the paper. Therefore the box opening would not be too wide, nor will the box become uneven. The paper can be divided into two types, longitudinal and transverse. Under external force, it would be deformed by the pull force and come back to normal once the force is gone.

Paper would deform under different temperature and humidity. If the paper material is newly manufactured, it would be easily bent or deformed because of high humidity. Therefore, newly made paper rolls are not suggested to be used to make paper packaging unless they have been stored at least 1 month to make sure its moisture content is suitable to the environment humidity.

Surface treatment especially water-based coating and polishing mean a lot to the box formation. The water-based coating makes paper absorbent to water, causing the paper fiber swell. To avoid any negative effect from the post printing surface treatment, the water-based coating products shall be put up for 48 hours before put to next process.

During die-cutting, the quality of cutter is a key point for a quality product, which assures the perfect edges of the products. There are many factors that affect the fullness of the indentation line of the paper box, including the specification and quality of the cutter line, the adjustment of the pressure, the use of the rubber strip and the bottom mold, etc. The thickness of the products to be die-cut and the width of the indentation line should be taken into consideration when selecting the cutter.
