Factors Influencing Carton Box Printing

Corrugated carton boxes enjoy the popularity in the paper packaging industry and its printing has also been paid much attention. So how corrugated board affects the carton box printing? How shall we deal with it?

Actually there are several aspects that can influence the printing effect. For example the ink absorption capacity of paper can somehow influence its printing effect. Too strong absorption capacity makes the printing images dull or pulverized; white too week absorption capacity makes it weak to dry. And for paper material with weak ink absorption capability, the thickness of ink layer should be controlled. Besides, dusting can be applied to prevent the back side of the paper getting dirty. Most of the offset paper performs better than coated paper on ink absorption. And coated paper is better than that of white cardboard.

Besides the roughness of the paperboard surface could influence the printing effect as well. Ink gets dry instantly on rough surface. The drying speed gets obviously slowed down on smooth surface. Therefore, more ink should be applied to rough surface, and less to the smooth surface. The coated white cardboard with smooth surface is not featured with strong ink absorption capability. However, it delivers high resolution images.

Fast dry ink is so printable on the paper but it would be a different story when the fast dry ink meets the recycled paper. Lighter ink stays longer on the roller than thick ink. And it tends to be more sticky to the paper which could affect the normal printing. To solve this problem, ink with vegetable oil with lower viscosity could be used.

Surface paper with lower weight per square meter triggers the quality issue like exposure of the corrugated board. To solve the unevenness of the corrugated board, flexible resin plate could be used to overcome the shortcoming of unclear printing.
