Precautions for Hot Stamping Technique

Hot stamping is so popular in paper packaging industry that so many customers require a unique hot stamping packaging to appeal to their targeted consumers. We can easily find hot stamped cosmetic boxes, gold stamping gift bags, and silver stamping beauty boxes all around. Hot stamping is the printing technique that transfers aluminum layer to the printed objects taking advantage of hot transferring principle. Under certain temperature and pressure. During hot stamping procedure, there could be some defaults happening now and then. We shall look into the problems and take actions to avoid them during printing.


Firstly, the hot stamping effect may not be fully delivered because of week stamping, which is very common in aluminum hot stamping. And it has something to do with temperature, pressure, the formula of inks, surface quality of the printed object, and the choice of the anodized aluminum. And this failure maybe caused by low stamping temperature, low pressure, or high stamping speed; or the ink layer gets crystallized or, get excessively powder sprayed; or the a coated surfaced by wax which prevents the adsorption of aluminum and paper; or thick base of the ink layer of the printed object that hinders the absorption of aluminum and paper too; or improper selection of anodized aluminum which directly affects its firmness.


And to solve this problem, suppliers can adjust the hot stamping temperature, pressure and the hot stamping speed. And ink crystallization should be prevented by taking off the hot stamping foil and get it heat printed to destroy the crystallized layer and get the surface treatment done to clean any dust before hot stamping. Apply more inks than standard sample to get desired stamping effect. Besides, the anodized aluminum shall be selected according to the stamping area and the properties of the printed materials.


Secondly, the inks on the printed object itself gets blurred or off during hot stamping procedure, which is mainly because of wet ink on the printed paper materials, or because of excessive use of white ink as a thinner, causing the absorbance of the binder to paper surface which makes the pigment suspended on the paper surface; or because the viscosity of the ink is less than that of the electrochemical aluminum foil layer. To solve this problem, the suppliers shall get the stamping done after the printed object is fully dry. And minimum mix of titanium white ink shall be used. Besides, it is not wise to have massive hot stamping design on light colored paper materials. Moreover, attention should be paid to the selection of fast setting ink with viscosity meeting the requirements. Attention should be paid to the control of the amount of anti adhesion agent in the ink to ensure that the ink viscosity meets the requirements.
